* This InMotion Hosting Review is based on my first hand experience as a user.
Just search Google for Web Hosting companies or Best Web Host and you will be flooded with results. Does this solve your problem? Well, no. ‘coz you are looking for something that helps your decision making in terms of picking a right web host for your website or blog.
While there are a lot of web hosting companies which are good at what they do; as a user you need just one which suits your needs and fulfills the criteria you are looking for in a web host.
Again, you will most probably explore the various web pages of a web hosting company and end up with a lot of info which again doesn’t solve your problem.
Earlier, even I used to go through this grind for lot of my websites, till the time I was experienced enough to pick the right web host from the word go. But there will be a lot others out there like me, who are still looking for a good review – an actual honest and unbiased review based on someones actual knowledge and experience.
This is what made me start my series of web hosting reviews, based on the things that matter to a user and will give them clarity to make a decision based on user experience.
The reviews are based on set of 7 criteria and our experience using the said web host’s services.
The Basis of our InMotion Hosting Review:
I generally have my Web Hosting Reviews based on 7 criteria, as given below:
So based on that, here is my InMotion Hosting Review!
InMotion Hosting Review – A Brief about the Company:
InMotion Hosting is a well renowned name in the web hosting and WordPress hosting space for quite a long time now. Co-Founded by Sunil Saxena, it is based out of Los Angeles, California with an office in Virginia as well.

Plans by InMotion Hosting:
InMotion has plans to suit all kind of users, from a newbie blogger to webmasters and business owners running high traffic websites.
InMotion also provides SSD for all its plans. It is a great PLUS as the industry is slowly moving towards it and it will soon be a standard. So even if you were to go for the base plan, which is $4.89* a month, you would still be getting a SSD Hosting.
*$4.89 per month offer applicable on buying a 24 month web hosting package
What is SSD, you ask?
Well, for most SSD is a known thing – Solid State Drives, since most of the latest laptops offer that and Apple have been giving it in their Macs for quite sometime now.
SSDs are an alternative to the traditional Hard Drives. They are faster and will trump the HDD with faster input/output or read/write tasks.
Now, when someone accesses your site and the corresponding piece of data – a post, an image, a video, etc. is loaded. This results in an input/output call or I/O. This same function on a regular HDD is around 10-20X slower than on an SSD, thus an SSD based hosting will result in faster load speeds for your users and a better experience even for the bloggers/webmasters while accessing and working on the backend.
InMotion offers a support feature for all its plans, called Premier Support. This feature is nothing but an extension of their 24/7 customer support.
They offer 5 ways in which customers can get in touch with them over any issue or query they may have; namely Phone, live chat, email, online tutorials, and forum.

WordPress Hosting Plans:
Ok, so first… WordPress Hosting is NOT Managed WordPress Hosting.
WordPress Hosting is something wherein you have a custom setup for a WordPress installation for your blog / website and have some custom features like preloaded WP plugins and tools. There might be some WP updates being taken care of. Overall the infrastructure is designed to give the best possible performance within the limitations of the hosting plan you pick, for a WordPress website.
It is still a cool thing to have if you plan to start a WordPress based website. It gets you started much faster with your WP blog.
Having said that, WordPress Hosting is offered by a lot of companies these days and InMotion is not the only one in that space.
Moreover if you are looking to migrate your blog / website from say Blogger etc. InMotion will help you out with the migration FREE of cost – More on this below.
Here are the WordPress Hosting plans they offer, followed by the features:
Managed Hosting Plans:
With InMotion, Managed Hosting is a premium service, wherein you hire the services of their expert team on an hourly basis to fix any system administrative or server level issue.
This is different from Managed WordPress Hosting, wherein you are provided a complete infrastructure optimized for WordPress and they have a team of WordPress experts to fix your issues (and that is why is is expensive too). You can read more on Managed WordPress Hosting here.
InMotion’s Managed Hosting plans start from $40 a month:
List of InMotion Hosting Data Centers:
Data Center is a crucial part of your web hosting decision. InMotion hosting has 2 Data Centers, one on the East Coast of USA – At Virginia Beach, VA; which by the way is the world’s first “Go-Green” data center, according to the company. The second data center is on the West Coast at Los Angeles, CA.
So depending on your preference you can pick one.
So, What’s Special About InMotion Hosting?

Migration Services by InMotion:
Firstly, a lot of companies offer FREE migration services to clients looking to switch a platform, like say moving from Blogger to WordPress or help them migrate from a different web host to their platform.
This makes sense too, as it helps them in acquiring newer customers. And for a customer it is an add-on services that saves them a lot of time and efforts, plus it is FREE, so that is great.
InMotion too offers these services and their team of experts will help you move in database and site migration; downtime-less and free of cost.
InMotion Hosting Review – Customer Support:
As mentioned at the start, I have been using InMotion for some of my own web portals and I can say they are indeed pretty awesome at that.
I have not had any major issues and never had a downtime, and my websites hosted on InMotion, do receive good amount of traffic. Their customer care is very prompt and responsive in addressing support requests too.
Ways to get in touch with InMotion Hosting apart from Phone Calls:
They are among the few companies which offers support over even Skype. You can reach out to them using this medium, over here. As we said, not a lot of companies have that.
I have used their Live Chat on quite a few occasions. In my experience, the average response time is in under 3 minutes.
Another good thing is they have knowledgeable representatives and to add to that a vast ‘knowledge center’ which houses content for most common questions or issues you and I may face. Thanks to these two factors, you will be able to solve your queries on your own, on most occasions. If not, their team will help you with that.
I have even tried their email to file a ticket and I did get a response quickly. As the query was related to my account and nothing urgent, I anticipated it would take some ‘reasonable’ amount of time. But to my surprise, around 1 hour is all it took for them to revert.
Here is a screenshot of the email we had sent and the time within which they responded.
Even in a second instance where I filed a ticket with them via email, their response time was again around 3 hrs. Again, my query was not that urgent; but still they were indeed prompt.
So yeah, all in all they do give good customer support and do earn good brownie points in the service department too.
Performance of InMotion Hosting:
Again, the performance of InMotion has been what I expected of it. Good, brisk and reliable. I had no issues on that front.
I will be adding a complete performance review of InMotion hosting, shortly. So do keep an eye on this space for that.
InMotion Hosting Review: Is it Scalable for your growing needs?
Ever heard the term “Outgrown their resources”? Yeah, that won’t happen with InMotion as they have plans to suit almost every need and I might add, they are reasonably priced for the features / service they offer.
Now, when it comes to scaling up or scaling down from in terms of Web Hosting plans, or even migrating from one host to another, what matters the most is the downtime and how to minimize it. Apart from that you surely don’t want to mess up anything on your site nor its content, right?
InMotion are experts at migration, and will assist you in the process free of cost. So you need not worry about the scalability issue when it comes to InMotion Hosting.
You can expect donwtime-free upgrade or even downgrade to any plan, depending upon your requirements.
You can get your Site Migrated from another host to InMotion or from a different platform altogether like Blogger to WordPress, free of Cost with again no downtime.
InMotion Hosting Review: Is it Value for Money?
I would say the InMotion Hosting guys know their trade and as you can see from the various plans vis-a-vis the features and service / support they offer, they do manage tick the value for money column.
I would recommend InMotion Hosting if you are looking for a good, reliable web host (which most likely you are) and will be able to help you scale and adjust to your needs. A good customer support is vital and while almost all web hosts claim that, trust me I have seen some well known names provide the worst kind of support. So based on my experience and above factors, I would say InMotion Hosting is a good bet.
“We tried to get in touch, but I guess we missed you. Can you help me with an alternate number?”
“You can try a Free Trial Session with our LIVE Tutor and to avail the Trial Session kindly Share the mentioned details so that we can assist you.”
How about something like:
“I would definitely recommend you make the most of our Trial Session with one of our LIVE Tutors. Its FREE and I am sure you would love it. Plus it will help you understand us better and can help solve some of your doubts too.
All you need to do is simply provide us the following:”
Overall, the more conversational and friendly the tone, the more the reader would relate and probably like. Moreover it gives a human touch over which is what most people prefer over a professional sounding email.
Blogging, WordPress, Building High Traffic Websites, Web Apps and Digital Marketing .... and yes, did I say I'm a big-time food junkie.
